M&Ms
Chapter 15
By Crystal
Never before in my life had I felt like such an old woman, such
as I did today. Barely at a mature 18, here I was, aching back,
four months pregnant with two children running around like
maniacs on sugar highs. Nick and Sass were uncontrollable. As
they rode rides and fussed over me, I contemplated my grumbling
stomach and dreamed of a deserted beach and a cold, pink drink. I
settled on a crisp green salad overflowing with a pool of
Thousand Island dressing, garlic bread and an iced tea.
"Shouldn't you be eating more than that?" I looked up
at Nick, grumpiness clouding my eyes.
"What are you implying, Carter?"
"You're supposed to be eating for two."
"If you think I'm going to stuff my expanding belly with a
greasy cheeseburger and french fries then you've got another
think coming."
"Hey, Brash? Take these, they'll help with the stress."
I took the two pills Sass offered me and swallowed them down with
iced tea. I took a deep breath and began to feel better.
"Thank you Sass. I can always count on sisterly love."
"Anytime. And as soon as those Midols kick in, there will be
even more sisterly love." Nick burst out laughing and Sass
merely took another sip of her Pepsi. I contemplated homicide.
"Come on Brash! Lighten up."
"I don't want to! You try being four months pregnant!"
She shrugged. "Okay."
Horrified, I faced her. "Don't you even think about it! If I
find out that you've been playing hanky panky with some conceited
and over-testosteronized male I'll hunt him down and suffocate
him with a shopping bag."
Sass turned bright red and covered her face with her hands. It
gave me a sick sense of satisfaction to know that I embarassed
her.
"I think what your sister is trying to say, Sass, is that
she loves you and would hate to be in the same room with you if
you were even half as grumpy as she is."
I shot Nick a look that, normally, should have frightened him,
but to my belief, only threw gas on his flame. "How was I
blessed with such wonderful, caring people in my life?" I
asked sarcastically.
"Brash, there won't be any shopping bag homicides. I'm not
interested in guys, not like that at least."
"Does that mean you're going to take down all the posters of
Nick from your walls?" I asked, smugly. Ah, it all came
back. All the sisterly, good-natured fights. I loved her for it.
Nick merely shook his head and smiled at Sass.
Sass sat up straight and neatly folded her hands in her lap.
"Brash, allow me to refresh your memory of something.
January fourth. Dear Diary
" Oh my god!
"Don't you dare!" I squealed. But she was quicker than
me.
"Dear Diary, I was absolutely humiliated to find that
picture of those boys Sass is so crazy over in place of my
psychology homework. I swear that those Backdoor boys are nothing
but annoying. Especially that one blonde, Nick. What's even more
irritating than his prissy leather pants and long hair is the
fact that he's undeniably drop dead gorgeous. I will forever,
till my dying day, never forgive Sass for her pop influenced
tendancies." I felt as if I had been run over by a tanker. I
didn't even bother looking up for I knew I would see nothing but
that smug look on Nick's face. Sass is dead.
"Prissy leather pants? I liked those!" But instead of
being offended, he leaned over and kissed my cheek. "You're
one of a kind."
I looked up, attempting to gain back some dignity. "So, how
'bout that ice show?"
